Toronto

April 21st, 2008

I am blogging from Toronto, where I am for business. You wouldn’t believe it but I changed 3 times hotel in less than 7 days. I am supposed to spend 5 to 6 weeks here so better to find the right cozy spot now than later. I made extensive use of the Hotel review websites. I really recommend TripAdvisor. People left lots of review and pretty much all hotels in Toronto are listed. I usually look at the most recent ones and the worse reviews, just to imagine the worse which can happen. So far I avoided the hotel which has rats as guest (I am not talking about Ratatouille here :)), the one which has the broken shower, the dirty ones (e.g. bedbugs), etc. The first hotel that I stayed had a broken internet, the second one was decent but I got sick of people asking money every time I put my foot outside of the hotel (e.g. not a safe area). I settled for a small but ok room in downtown Toronto at the Strathcona hotel. The location is great, I only sleep there anyway, I am not the type of person who spends time in the hotel other than hygienic and sleep purpose. My workstation is across the hotel, the Tim Horton offers a high speed internet for free and has coffee and food. All I need to fuel my brain and stay connected. I attached a few pictures of Toronto. I am amazed to see how many young people live here. I am 31 and I feel old compared to the crowd. Toronto is very multi-cultural: Asians, Indians, Russians, white Caucasian, etc. But I don’t feel that communities are mixing up. The young people from Asia speak languages from their home country which tells me that they’re recent immigrants. I am going to spend some nice time here. I already made a couple friends. For dinner, I can recommend the following places : the Dazzling and the Saint Tropez, both in King St.

Enjoy the pixels from this young and dynamic city.

Gravity of Love

April 8th, 2008

I was listening to Enigma the other day, and I wondered what the title meant. “Gravity of Love” ?? Hmm…I looked up into the Merriam-Webster to learn the different meanings of the word “gravity”. The first thing which came to my mind before even looking at the dictionary was the “seriousness or importance” of Love. But gravity could also refer to the attraction of two masses. In other words, when you love someone you have gravity with that person so to speak. My physics professor would have said that all masses have interaction forces due to gravity regardless of them being in love or not.

When you think about it, it makes total sense, people need emotional gravity to survive. This is getting philosophical… ;)

Enjoy the song…
